Very variable breezes, both direction and strength, greeted sailors for the first 5 heats of the Spring Short Course Series on Sunday afternoon. This provided quite challenging conditions, where a boat may have established a good lead in a good puff of breeze, and then suddenly found themselves almost becalmed and passed by the rest of the fleet.
In Division 1, the Lasers were joined by Simon Jones in his Windrush. The variable conditions mixed the finishing positions up with most sailors having a couple of good results, and a few that they would rather forget. Dave Krempin finished ahead in three races, while the Richard’s - Norm and son Billy- each took out a race.
In the Sabres, Phil Gray likewise led the Class home in three races while John Ladewig and Kim Taylor each had a victory. Graeme Hattrick had a very consistent afternoon with four Third placings.
In Division Three, Youth sailors Riley House (Laser 4.7) and Cody Markey (Optimist) generally had close finishes after the Yardsticking calculations with Riley securing three flags and Cody two.
Thanks to Race Officers Mike Groves and David Ollerenshaw, and also to Stuart House for manning the Support RIB during the afternoon.
