Good fleet for the final 5 heats of the Summer Short Course Series with great sailing conditions on the Maroochy.
Thanks to Race Officers Matt Hattrick and Gard Saunders who set a triangular course, and tried an unusual downwind start. After the first race, the course was reset to the more conventional upwind start.
In Division 1, Norm Richards continues his good late-season form in the Laser Radial, while Dave Krempin has returned from his travels to remind fellow Laser sailors he is the one to beat! Brent and Tanya tried valiantly, but Dave had the edge in most races.
In Division 2, there was a strong fleet of Sabres with two Pacers. John Ladewig led the way home in most races (including an unusual tie in Race 2 with the Noble’s Pacer). Mike Groves continued his flashes of brilliance while Meryl, David and Bruce are creeping closer to the front of the fleet. Welcome to new Sabre sailor Kim who took a few races to get going, but sailed will in the latter races.
Among the Juniors, Cody Markey continues to sail consistently, while Laser sailor Alex was joined by Baden Johnson sailing a Laser for the first time. With such a difference in boats, results here are calculated on yardsticked average lap times.
With Easter School holidays here, and Easter itself very close, there will be no sailing for a few weeks. The final 2 races of the Summer Long Course Series are scheduled for Sunday 28 April, following Green Fleet Training and Tackers 2 in the morning.
