Sailing Report - Sunday 24 March

Nice day on the water - warm, with a moderate ENE breeze to keep the boats moving.

Morning activities with Adventure Sailing, Tackers 3 Training and Green Fleet Training.

Members enjoyed a lunch-time visit from Casey Sutherland and 2 month-old daughter Eden who was introduced to the Club where her Mum was such an active participant for many years. Still a little young for her first sail, I’m sure Eden will be on the water before many years pass!

Afternoon racing was 5 heats of the Summer Short course Series. A strong fleet contested the races, with a Windward-Leeward course set by Race Officers Gard Saunders assisted by Bruce Markey.

Division 1 - the Lasers- were closely contested as usual with podium positions shared among the fleet, but Neil Noble had a good afternoon with a couple of Flags and a Second placing.

Division 2 - Former member and Sabre sailor John Campbell joined the club racing for the afternoon, with 8 Sabres and 2 Pacers contesting the races. Phil Gray led the early races home, ahead of John Campbell before he had to leave for work commitments. Most sailors would be happy with at least some of their performances during the afternoon.

Division 3 - the Mixed Youth Fleet. Tex Granger (Optimist) and Riley House (Laser 4.7) each shared a couple of Flags, while Cody Markey had one. Baden Johnson sailed consistently to score 3 Second placings in the 5 races.

NEXT WEEK - Sunday 31 March - Tackers 2 and Green Fleet Training from 9.30am; Afternoon Racing with 2 heats of the Summer Long Course Series - RO needed!
