SAILING REPORT - Sunday 20 October

A windy day on the river that challenged all sailors.

In the afternoon race, the attrition rate was high, with broken gear and tired bodies forcing boats off the water during 5 races of the Spring Short Course Series.

Among the Lasers, Norm Richards saw out the 5 races, leading the fleet home in 4 of them. Special mention of Junior Youth sailor Riley House who helmed his 4.7 Laser around the course, to complete all 5 races, and led Norm home in one.

The experienced Sabre sailors coped with the conditions, with Phil Gray and James Grieve continuing their on-going contest on the water with James having a slightly better afternoon.. John Ladewig followed closely until gear issues forced him ashore.

Given the conditions, no Optimist or Sabot sailors participated.

It was a busy afternoon for Stuart House and Bob Johnson in the Race Support boats, attending to capsizes and escorting broken boats and tired sailors ashore.. Thanks also to Race Officers Kim Taylor and Gard Saunders who waved the boats away and timed the finishes, Gard sacrificing her hat to the elements during the afternoon!

Next Sunday - 27 October.

Morning from 9.30am - Adventure Sailing, Tackers 2 and Green Fleet Training.

Afternoon Racing, following a Briefing at 1.00pm - 2 heats of the Spring Long Course Series.
