Over the past few weeks, a number of our members have been testing their skills in the Class Championships held at venues throughout Australia at this time of year.
Three of our Youth sailors journeyed to the Optimist Dinghy National Championships, held this year in Hobart.
Young sailors Riley House and Marcel Klatsmanyi competed in the Open Dinghy section against stiff opposition. Both lads were re-allocated to the Final’s Silver Division with Marcel placing 20th and Riley placing 30th in a fleet of about 70 boats.
Eszter Klatsmanyi also took to the water, but in the Green (Novice) Fleet Division where she was placed 5th in a fleet of 40 boats - a great effort from a very keen young sailor!
Also competing at the Sabre National Championships, but closer to home at RQYS, Manly, was John Ladewig who finished mid-fleet sailing against 28 other Sabres, many from Victoria where the class is very strong and competition very keen.
This year we had relatively few members participating in the various Nationals, but it is good to see some Maroochy sailors gain experience by competing against the best in the country.
