Sailing Report - Sunday 6 May

The wind gods sent a blustery Southerly for the last day of sailing for Maroochy's Summer season. A course was set with a short beat across the river and two longer reaching legs that allowed boats to sail at faster speeds.

A dozen boats from the Senior Fleets took to the water, and a number of Optimist dinghies also tested the wind and the water. However the the gusty conditions meant it was challenge for all but the more experienced sailors, and none of the Optis completed the course - three races of the River Runner Series.  Dave Krempin led the Lasers home followed by Casey Sutherland and John Henry, while Rod Gray and Martin Webb led the Sabres.

Thanks to RO Pam Kamen assisted on the water by John Ladewig with Graeme Hattrick manning the Support Boat to assist the younger sailors around the course.

Results are now published.

Next Saturday - Schools' Sailing Competition at Maroochy in preparation for the Sunshine Coast School's Sailing Competition at Noosa.

We'll take a break from competition sailing for a few months, with regular competition resuming in late August. However, it is likely that, weather permitting, there will be a few Sunday's Winter Sailing spread over the next few months -- Watch this Space for more info!
