Schools Sailing Report

Last Saturday our club hosted it's inaugural Maroochy inter-schools regatta, as a lead up to the big one at NYRC this coming weekend. Everyone involved felt it was a great shake down day with some very keenly contested races.

The day started in 12kts of South Westerly wind which meant that the course could be laid with the start/finish line just off the western tip of the island which was great for all the spectators.

Ten teams from 5 local schools competed, with Ryan McVey from Maroochy High dominating the early heats but unfortunately lost his crew for the finals.

The breeze started to drop as they went into the final races  but luckily the tide wasn't as strong as the morning which really tested the skills of the sailors.

The final results were:

1st - Sunshine Coast Grammar - Matthew Green & Kobe Dunlop

2nd - St Andrews Anglican College - Patrick Schiemde & Oliver Simpson

3rd - Immanuel Lutheran College - Matt Hattrick & Nils Weiss

Special thanks goes out to those running the event, Tim Edwards as RO with Norm Richards assisting. Ian Jessett in the course boat and umpire. Christine Saunders and Alexis Agnew on land support with Sam Hattrick keeping everyone fed and watered.

Also to Scott and the NYRC for their advice and support.

Graeme Hattrick

Good Luck to all Sailors progressing to the Sunshine Coast Inter-School Dinghy Regatta at Noosa over the weekend 19-20 May.
